Building a Room

Growing up I was home alone a lot. My parents trusted me to take care of myself and I got used to the solitude. Since the pandemic however, I had to get used to someone else being home all the time, and I did not adjust well. I love my family but we were never really affectionate. During quarantine I circulated only three places; the kitchen, bathroom, and my room. Building A Room is about the home I made for myself. I built a maquette out of cardboard and other everyday objects, and fashioned a hybrid of the three rooms. I observed it as if it was a still life and painted the structures I thought I knew by heart. During this process, I got to know how I remember my comfort place, not just how I see it.
