Illustrator’s Life

Illustrator’s Life inspects drawing as a procedure. I investigate the process of illustration through a meta-narrative about drawing itself. Traditional drawing, as well as other media, comes with its own set of chances and errors. The process will always inevitably involve revision, time, erasure, repetition, adaptation, and much more. Within 33 consecutive drawings, I try embodying a snippet of these principles.

The visual style is evidently Inspired by sequential art, traditional comics, and the act of doodling. From the transparency of non-photo blue pencil to the boldness of black ink. The perfect straight lines and ghostly graphite imply the use of a ruler and eraser. These tools are rudimentary to a modern illustrator, but the physical and conceptual skills have been practiced since long ago. When the 33 drawings are placed together, the sequence is reminiscent of relief carvings. The Trajan column, Egyptian hieroglyphics, and Hindu temples, all had wall sculptures that told a story. Most of these reliefs portrayed myths, but many also enacted activities these cultures would actually engage in. Whether it was about war, craft, law, or sex, it was self-aware and showcased skills that modern sequential artists still use. This character represents me, an artist, or any person who utilizes these tools and processes. This is how I draw.'
